National Park Service
Lowell National Historical Park

Boston, Massachusetts | 1,400 sq. ft.

Lowell is recognized for its significant contributions to the Industrial Revolution, but some of its other stories are lesser known. With the support of dozens of community members, new exhibits at the park share different cultural stories from the community’s last 150 years. Generations of people living, dancing, creating, preserving, cooking, and working in Lowell are showcased in a vibrant new space imbued with their voices. Content is shared in three languages and includes braille and other elements to provide multiple connection points.

Visitors are guided by a river inlaid in the floor as they experience the sounds, smells, and sights of the city. A streetscape, home, city park, and other stylized scenic areas act as a collective conduit to tell peoples’ stories in an interactive and participatory way. Visitors engage with key exhibit components that serve as a living and changing reflection of the community.
