Smithsonian National Postal Museum: “Behind the Badge”

Washington, DC | 1,700 sq. ft.

The United States Postal Inspectors are the country’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, dating back to the Colonial era. “Behind the Badge” brings this under told story to light, as well as highlighting the diverse skills and accomplishments of these Inspectors.

The story is told through multiple AV presentations, mechanical interactives, touch table game activities, sound-bites from Inspectors, meaningful artifacts such as the Anthrax letters, and oversized infographics—all designed to engage the visitor by continually focusing on the people that have kept the US, and the mail, safe. A playful nod to mail security is carried throughout graphically, with custom-made security envelope patterned wallpaper. Visitors will leave the exhibit feeling more aware of potential frauds and dangers, but confident in the knowledge on how to protect themselves that they have gained from the exhibit.
