FDR Memorial

Washington, DC | 460 sq. ft. + Outdoor Waysides

The Design Minds worked with the National Park Service to improve accessibility
at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, DC. The indoor and outdoor exhibits include graphics, braille translations, audio descriptions, and tactile models to provide access to key features of the memorial. Every visitor can engage with more context about FDR and the challenges the country faced during the Great Depression and World War II.

Wayside exhibits provide accessible interpretation of the statues and fountains throughout the memorial. These elements interpret key aspects of FDR’s presidency but remained largely inaccessible to visitors who are blind or have low vision. Our team worked with NPS to develop tactile elements that enable all visitors to explore these features and connect with the memorial and FDR’s legacy.
