New River Gorge became America’s newest National Park in 2021. The Design Minds worked with NPS staff to develop new exhibits in the Canyon Rim Visitor Center that celebrate this occasion. Immersive interpretation helps the park’s expanded audience better understand the geology, history, and biodiversity of New River Gorge.

Exhibits are designed to answer visitor questions. The experience begins in the lobby with overview sections that answer “What Can I Do Here?” The main exhibit space features an immersive gorge environment. Theatrical lighting on the floor mimics water and the side walls rise to the ceiling with grand imagery, interpretive text, and interactives. Visitors are immersed in the grand scale of this place and compelled to explore the many wonders of the park.
