Nez Perce National Historical Park is the only NPS site solely dedicated to interpreting a living indigenous people. Its visitor center stands on the Nez Perce Reservation and serves Nez Perce people first and foremost. The Design Minds and park staff worked closely with elders from three reservations—Nez Perce, Umatilla, and Colville. Elder voices directed every element of the design, ensuring the exhibits speak truthfully to the Nımíıpuu identity. Nımíıpuu language, voices, and objects form the heart of the exhibits, telling the Nez Perce story since time immemorial.
