AT THE C&O CANAL National Historical Park in Georgetown, D.C., Design Minds completed an interpretive Visitor Center that will help visitors experience the history of the American canal system. The Park was in need of a more immersive experience at their contact station, but were constricted with tight space limitations. The new station now surrounds the visitor with canal history-themed decor, distressed finishes, and period graphic treatments. The main desk, fashioned into a large-scale canal boat, was also designed to provide staff with greater funtionality. Other elements include a fully tactile map, a thematic room for Ranger-led talks, signage, and interpretive outdoor exhibits.
